Marriage a Social Liability

Image
Bhat Mujtaba Gurezi The bible says that “marriage is a solemn and public covenant between a man and a woman in the presence of God, intended by God for their mutual joy; for the help and comfort given to one another in prosperity and adversity; and when it is God’s will, for the procreation of children and their nurture”. So this is what marriage in a real sense speaks about. The wording above mentioned has a deep meaning and pure taste of  love and respect. Can we say a couple who marry here are literally bonded somewhere in heavens and given a physical form on earth to get united and carry forward the love and human race, superior among all, beautifully mentioned in holy Quran as Ashraful Makhlooqat (noblest of all creatures) that is created in beautiful mould with capacities and capabilities to carry out good deeds. With man’s most attention towards progress in life or shifting of personal interests directed by  external factors of the society, marriage at a req...

Kashmir University at it's Death Bed

Image
Bhat Mujtaba Gurezi Kashmir University the highest seat of learning, a body of autonomous character run by state intelligentsia has a praise worthy contribution in inventing the educated machinery of the state. Recently the grant of NAAC A+ grade to the university raised its ranking and overall prestige among other dignified institutes of the country. It acts like a magnet and attracts the state’s cream of brilliant students and scholars to its fold located in the vicinity of famous Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar. Once upon a time getting admission into the university’s masters or doctorate programmes was a cherished dream of most of the aspirants throughout the state. Unfortunately a decline is  witnessed in the process now, whereby maximum number of students preferring to move outside the state and give least preference to this institution is what makes us ponder over the changing trend. The time for completing any course is not always met as per the notification or presc...

childhood the fountain of innocence

Image
The way this child is praying, holding hands so beautifully with bread (roti) in her pockets speaks an innocent narrative. This doesn't need any kind of make up or photo editing to make it beautiful. The beauty is apparent.  This picture got my attention and I couldn't stop myself from writing a little for this angel. This is actually, I would say in lay terms a cultural indication, when after winter breaks the schools in Kashmir reopen, the parents need to pack their children with sugar mixed bread locally called by a famous name khandeh tchuth . Everytime my sight hits the picture, heart shakes and mind pushes me to the past. The past that flew away like dust, leaving behind innumerable, unforgettable, living, green and golden memories. All of us know the chilhood is the best time in every person's life, with time the age burdens us makes us prey to the wordly affairs and centers us to the materialistic attractions. Just talk to  children, perceive the responses they...

Losing The Identity..... Kashmiriyat

Bhat Mujtaba Gurezi Culture, beliefs, values, mores are what we get from the continuous use and disuse of principles of living and interacting. If we would go by the simple perception, the indian subcontinent as a whole is multifarous throughout its length and breadth. Whether it is social, cultural or physical dimension, the subcontinent is diverse, Kashmir being a segment  of this huge geographical entity has not stood behind from being  a blend of dissimilarities and distinctiveness. The Jammu and Kashmir in sum total has individualized in social and cultural aspects. The three regions- Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh with respective religious dominations of Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism have flavours of their own with one contrasting from the other. Kashmir so far concerned is the most Muslim dominated region and has an imprint of the Persian culture.  Kashmiri cousine, habits of eating, ways of living, wearing style, the attire is what we got from the west Asian incomer...

Pick Secularism Drop Communalism

Bhat Mujtaba Gurezi India is a country very  vast in diversity, with a large population living in a socio cultural mileau where everything is inter mingled. Right from the ancient times we have seen streams of culture coming into india adding their flavour to the very social, cultural, behavioural and emotional thread of India. This age old mingling and churning of ideas, beliefs, values and mores have given birth to the sociological, political, economic, cultural principles and functions in India. In this synthesis the two giant principles of secularism and communalism have walked shoulder to shoulder. Going back to the times of India’s independence struggle, when partition was inevitable, the history is there how communal frenzy broke out. The ‘communal monster’ called by Jinnah destroyed the inter community compatibilities and secular tendencies developed by people of India long time before. But after independence the collective and pragmatic efforts put together by the lead...

The Pathetic Communication and Gurez Valley

Valley of gurez, very beautiful with unparalled landscape  where nature has painted the colours with most care and leisure. Though nature has been unbiased in shaping the valley. Alas! Humans have not done justice in disbursing their part of duty and respomsibility to the valley. We have seen institutional and infrastructural changes all through last ten years.Woefully very little has been done in the arena of communication. The modern world, the age of technology when humans started to leave this earth and settle somewhere on our sister planets like Mars, it is ironical that Gurezi’s still ache for a proper cellular communication. Though landline active from a long time remained limited only in the middle sector of the valley. Tulail and Bagtore, the most marginalised regionsof Gurez sub division  are devoid of such facility as well. This is the age when India is claimimg to be the fastest growing economy. This is the time when IT sector of India is shining globally. India ...
